Animal Awards Programme
PDSA's animal awards programme exists to recognise acts of animal bravery or exceptional devotion to duty.
The PDSA Dickin Medal – known internationally as the animals’ Victoria Cross – has been awarded for military gallantry for over 70 years.
Its civilian equivalent, the PDSA Gold Medal was instituted in 2001.
The newest award to be added to the programme is the PDSA Order of Merit. Instituted in June 2014, it recognises animals that have shown outstanding acts of devotion and that symbolise the special relationship between animals and humans.
