Why help PDSA?
PDSA is funded entirely by the public. By taking part in PettyCash you will be raising both money and awareness for PDSA, which will help ensure that we can continue to care for the sick and injured pets of people in need.
What skills will I develop?
PettyCash has 8 events for you to choose from depending on your own interests. Each event will help you to develop a particular set of skills depending upon the nature of the specific event. All 8 of the events involve all of the skills; just at varying levels. Each of the skills are show below:
I.T
This challenge will help to develop your IT skills, focusing on the creation of invitations, use of emails and social media to promote your event.
Creativity
Everyone has to be creative at some point in their working lives, whether it is designing an advert or solving a problem. Creativity is an important skill, which can be applied to almost any task. Even people who think they are not creative in the artistic sense will have creative spark for other areas of their life and these challenges will help provide employers with evidence of this.
Business Acumen
Some of the challenges require a certain amount of business acumen which includes a keenness and quickness in understanding when dealing with a business situation, as well as being able to make good judgments and quick decisions.
Organisation
Organisation is an important skill that employers look for. An organised individual will usually display other qualities that employers look for, including reliability and punctuality. It is important that you can prioritise tasks and organise your time; each of the challenges needs to be organised effectively to enable them to be successful.
Numeracy
Employers look for future employees who have good numerical skills; this isn’t simply being able to complete calculations, but also about being a quick thinker, alongside accuracy and methodical.
Leadership
A good leader must be able to demonstrate a variety of skills including good communication, the ability to listen to and consider other people’s ideas, as well as being empathetic and providing motivation and vision.
Teamwork
Teamwork is an extremely important skill to have. Working with others effectively means you need to be able to share your thoughts and ideas as well as listening to others.
Networking
Many of the challenges require an individual who has the ability to initiate contact with people who can help support the event in some way, as well as building a relationship with people.
Written Communication
As well as the ability to communicate orally, employers look for written communication skills, particularly if the role involves writing letters or copy for adverts, magazines, newspapers and websites.
Oral Communication
The ability to effectively communicate your thoughts, intentions, ideas and plans is essential. Employers look for people with good communication skills, including the ability to present to others.
