Battle of the Bands
Musically minded? Love listening to musical talent? Use your communication capabilities to line up a Battle of the Bands to remember!
What is a battle of the bands event?
Know someone who reckons they can sing like an angel? Or an up and coming rock band? Showcase them in your very own version of X-Factor and suss out future stars! Ask around at your local school, college and local community to see what musical talent you have and put on a great show to raise money for sick and injured pets.

Things to consider
- Find a suitable venue, why not ask your school or local youth club?
- How and where are you going to advertise your event?
- Make sure the venue has the right sound equipment and that it is safe to use.
- Tickets will need to be designed and printed. Remember to include the time, date and venue.
- How many adults will be needed to supervise?
- How are people going to vote for their favourite act? Will they cheer, vote, text or will you have a panel of judges?
- Provide a prize for the winning act (something to consider when deciding your entry fee/ticket price or you could ask local businesses to donate a prize).
Business acumen - You may need to make good judgments and quick decisions about your event; think about how to keep your expenses to a minimum, marketing your event in interesting ways and making as much profit as you can!
Numeracy - Employers look for future employees who have good numerial skills; this isn't simply being able to complete calculations, but being a quick thinker, methodical and accurate. You need to be able to calculate your overhead expenses and balance these with potential profit, as well as planning for 'unexpected' charges that may occur.
Communication - The ability to effectively communicate your thoughts, intentions, ideas and plans is essential. You will need to communicate with people who are helping you, people who you want to come to the event, bands and any suppliers.
Networking - It is essential that you have the ability to initiate contact with people who can help support the event in some way as well as building a relationship with people. Make sure you respond to queries promptly, keep everybody involved updated and always wear a smile!
