Things to consider
- Find a suitable venue; your school might be ideal.
- Think where you could advertise - hair salons and high street clothing stores could be a good start.
- Do you want to have music and light to accompany your show?
- Think about health and safety i.e. be aware of how many people your venue will hold and check that the catwalk is safe to walk across.
- Tickets will need to be designed and printed. Remember to include the time, date and venue.
- How many staff will be needed to supervise?
- How will you get people to model clothes for you?
Skills
The key skills you will develop whilst completing this event will be:
Organisation - An organised individual will usually display other qualities that employers look for, including reliability and punctuality. It is important that you can prioritise tasks and organise your time; there will be lots to organise including the venue, advertising, clothes and designs.
Team work - Working with others effectively means you need to be able to share your thoughts and ideas as well as listening to others. Remember without the help of others you won't be able to organise a successful event.
Leadership - A good leader must be able to demonstrate a variety of skills including good communication, the ability to listen to and consider other people’s ideas, as well as being empathetic and providing motivation and vision.
Creativity - Even if you are not one of the designers for the fashion show, everyone has to be creative at some point in their working lives, whether it is designing an advert or solving a problem. Creativity is an important skill, which can be applied to almost any task. Even people who think they are not creative in the artistic sense need a little creative spark for other areas of their life and these challenges will help provide employers with evidence of this.
