Beat the credit crunch this Christmas with PDSA

Beat the credit crunch this Christmas with PDSA
With the recession biting, living costs on the rise and inflation spiralling, the financial burden of Christmas is the last thing Brits want on their plate.

But Christmas needn’t be crippling, says leading veterinary charity PDSA, as its charity shops can save the day and make financing the festivities feasible.

Each PDSA shop is brimming with hidden yuletide treasures, ranging from cut-price Christmas cards, to bargain gifts below £10 and low-cost clothing, which could even be designer or vintage.

PDSA Head of Trading, David Facer, says: “Whether you’re looking for presents, cards or clothing, there is something to suit all tastes at your local PDSA charity shop. In the past we’ve received Rolex watches, Tiffany jewellery and haute couture dresses – the trick is to go in frequently and browse the bargains, as you never know what you might find.”

PDSA’s five tips to surviving Christmas:

1. Party time – whether it’s a whole outfit or accessories to revamp an existing outfit for your office party or family get together, PDSA’s rails are crammed with clothes, often under a fiver
2. The gift is right – a well-kept secret is that PDSA shops stock a wide range of new items that make ‘purrrfect’ gifts for him, her, the kids and even the pets! Favourite high street brands start from as little as 99p
3. Write on – PDSA boasts a bumper selection of attractive Christmas cards that help support pets in need of vets
4. It’s a wrap – don’t pay high street prices to wrap your gifts, get your paws on PDSA’s wrapping paper and gift bags
5. Shop with a conscience – give yourself a pat on the back for supporting a good cause and helping the planet by recycling

David adds: “As well as cutting the cost of Christmas by following our top tips, you’ll also be helping to raise vital funds for sick and injured pets. So what are you waiting for – make your local PDSA shop your number one destination for Christmas shopping!”

PDSA is also appealing for unwanted, good quality items to be donated to its shops. If you’ve got clothes you no longer wear or home furnishings you no longer want, why not recycle and take items to your local PDSA charity shop for other people to enjoy, or better still, buy as Christmas presents for their loved ones?

PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity, providing free veterinary treatment to the sick and injured pets of people in need. This year, the charity will provide more than 1.8 million free veterinary treatments, at a cost of £48 million, which is funded by the generosity of the public.
