Placement types
Which type of placement are you?
Veterinary Students
Provided that suitable levels of supervision by a PDSA Veterinary Surgeon can be provided, PDSA PetAid hospitals are keen to accommodate Seeing Practice Veterinary Students.
Veterinary Nurses
Student Veterinary Nurses and Degree Student Veterinary Nurses may be accepted where PDSA PetAid hospitals are registered Training Practices with relevant VNAC and assessors in place. College of Animal Welfare SVNs would take priority.
Qualified Veterinary Nurses may also apply to undertake a placement at a PDSA PetAid hospital.
Veterinary Surgeons
Some PDSA PetAid hospitals can accommodate MRCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeons, but an assessment of skills and competence will be undertaken in order to safeguard PDSA’s clinical standards and reputation.
Non - MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeons who intend to sit the MRCVS exam and who are logged with RCVS may also be considered but will be given lower priority.
Veterinary surgeons who are not MRCVS registered and not logged to sit the MRCVS exam will not be considered.
Animal Care Students
Students undertaking Higher or Further Education Courses may be considered at some PDSA PetAid hospitals.
Examples of these courses include:
BTEC (Hons) Animal Management, FdSc in Animal Management, BTEC National Diploma in Animal Care, C&G Advanced National Certificate in Animal Care, BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care.
Volunteering
PDSA PetAid services are supported by nearly 5,000 volunteers who help mainly in our shops, offices and fundraising groups.
There are very few volunteering roles with animal contact within our PetAid hospitals because the pets we treat are cared for by qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses. However, occasionally there are vacancies assisting the nursing staff, helping on reception or keeping the PetAid hospital grounds tidy.
