PDSA has around 180 retail stores, selling both donated goods and carefully selected new goods lines. Our stores are lively places and the daily work is often varied and rewarding. As in Veterinary, a career in our Retail team is a frontline position which gives you the unique opportunity to raise awareness of the charity with individuals who are coming into contact with PDSA for the first time, while also generating vital funds to support our cause.
Each store has its own manager, a team of dedicated volunteers and up to three other paid members of staff, according to its size. Many of our stores are located in towns with PetAid hospitals and we encourage our Retail and Veterinary teams to build relationships and share ideas, making the most of valuable experience and creativity in local networks in order to offer the best service possible to our valued customers and clients.
There are a range of rewarding roles within our Retail team:
PDSA Shop Managers are responsible for driving sales and profits, and merchandising their store commercially to increase footfall. Working with an Area Retail Manager to achieve their business goals, all Store Managers are PDSA brand ambassadors, promoting the vision and mission of the organisation.
With strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate, coach and develop a team of staff and volunteers; you will develop your team to deliver all aspects of their roles effectively, including customer service and stock management. PDSA store managers are self-motivated, organised, enjoy working with people and thrive on the opportunity to run their own stores.
Assistant Shop Managers support their Shop Manager by driving sales and profits and working closely with staff and volunteers. Assistant Shop Managers are key PDSA brand ambassadors, promoting the vision and mission of the organisation.
Self motivated, with strong interpersonal skills, Assistant Shop Managers at PDSA thrive on the challenges and opportunities that come with assisting in the running of a store.
Stock Collectors are often the first members of staff our customers and supporters come into contact with when then they donate to PDSA. Therefore, Stock Collectors are key brand ambassadors for our charity. Reporting to the Area Retail Manager, they share responsibility for the delivery and pick up of PDSA collection sacks and leaflets to generate stock donations, and make sure any donated stock is taken to the stores.
A physically demanding role, Stock Collectors need to be able to load and unload heavy sacks of donated goods and furniture. Courteous and well presented with a positive attitude and commitment to excellent customer service, Stock Collectors must hold a full, clean UK driving licence which includes eligibility to drive a vehicle up to 3500kg.
Sales and Stock Assistants are responsible for supporting Shop Managers to maximise the store’s sales opportunities. Assisting with stock management and providing excellent customer service, the role is varied between operational duties and service delivery. This role involves working on the sales floor as well as behind the scenes, depending on the needs of the store.
Sales and Stock Assistants are team players and are required to multitask and have the ability to communicate with ease. Their positive attitude means they enjoy meeting people and are eager to learn and develop their skill set as this role is extremely varied.
All of these positions are supported from our Head Office with Divisional Managers and Trainers working out in the stores to offer assistance and maximise each shops sales potential.
