Shop and retail jobs
At PDSA we run 179 retail shops, selling not only donated goods but also PDSA’s own new goods. Our shops are lively places and the daily work is often varied and challenging!
Each shop has it’s own manager, a team of dedicated volunteers and up to three other paid members of staff according to it’s size.
Shop Managers
Working in conjunction with the Area Retail Manager, the main task for the Shop Manager is to ensure that the shop achieves sales & profit targets, promotes the ideals of PDSA and is run in keeping with PDSA policy.
You will be a self motivated and organized person who enjoys working with people and would like the challenge and responsibility of running a shop.
Assistant Shop Managers
Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Assistant Shop Manager will be trained in all aspects of managing a PDSA shop in order to become competent in assisting the Manager in achieving sales & profit targets, promoting the ideals of the PDSA and ensuring compliance with PDSA policy.
You will be a self motivated person who enjoys working with people and would like the challenge and responsibility of assisting in running a shop.
Stock Collectors
The Stock Collector is the first point of contact and is therefore the ambassador for the company. At the direction of a designated Area Retail Manager (ARM) and Shop Manager, the main task is to deliver leaflets and collection sacks to private homes requesting donations of stock, and to return at a later date to collect the goods and re-distribute them to shops within the area.
You will be a person who has a courteous manner and a good standard of personal presentation. This job involves a high level of physically demanding work. This post requires someone who is able to cope with a considerable amount of walking & loading/unloading of heavy sacks of donated goods or furniture from van to shop etc.
You must possess a clean driving licence, to include Category B, B1, C & C1 (i.e. standard driving licence).
Sales & Stock Assistants
The Sales & Stock Assistants support the shop management team in maximising sales and reducing losses by providing a professional approach to both customer service and stock handling at all times.
You will be a confident individual who enjoys meeting and greeting the general public and who appreciates the value of teamwork and good customer care. It would be desirable for the post holder to have a current driving licence and be a car owner, but not essential. It may occasionally be necessary to travel for meetings/training sessions which from time to time may involve overnight stays away from the home base.
Volunteers
All of these positions are supported from our Head Office with Divisional Managers and Trainers working out in the stores to offer assistance and maximise each shops sales potential.
