Amending an existing will

Senior Veterinary Surgeon with dogIndividual circumstances do change, so it is always advisable to review your will from time to time to ensure it still reflects your wishes.

If you want to amend an existing will, a codicil can be easily added. This is like an appendix, which needs to be signed, witnessed and kept with the original copy of your will. A codicil can be used to make specific changes to an existing will, like replacing an executor or adding a new gift, while leaving the remaining instructions untouched. If a number of amendments are required, a new will may be needed.

PDSA has produced a sample codicil which you can download here. By following our simple instructions, using PDSA’s legacy booklet and referring to the sample codicil you can easily amend an existing will. If you need any further assistance please phone our Legacy Team free on 0800 591248.
