Doggy Dangers

  1. Always keep dogs on a lead when near traffic.
  2. Train your dog to obey basic commands.
  3. Don't let your dog exercise unsupervised outside your garden.
  4. Look out for dangers in the home:
    • Hot radiators, electric and open fires
    • Trailing wires
    • Ceramic hobs
    • Unstable items of furniture that could be pulled over by a dog
  5. Watch for dangers in the garden;
    • Poisonous plants
    • Uncovered ponds
    • Broken fences
    • Open gates
    • Keep all rubbish bins securely closed
  6. Keep all medicines, cleaning agents and garden products securely out of reach:
    • Take a sample along with you to the vet's if your dog eats anything.
  7. Make sure your dog can't eat any small children's toys;
    • Only buy toys that are specifically designed for a pet's use.
    • Buy toys that are too big to be swallowed.
    • Buy toys that can't be chewed up
  8. Don't leave your dog in a car of a confined space in hot weather.
  9. Make sure everyone in the family knows where the First Aid Kit is kept, and how to contact the vet. Do First Aid Family Training!
  10. Use common sense in any situation that involves Dog First Aid. Don't put your own life, or the lives of others at risk.
