X-ray Appeal
Support PDSA’s X-ray appeal in one of our PetAid hospitals
Would you like to support a digital x-ray processor in one of our PetAid hospitals?
We need to purchase brand new state of the art digital x-ray processors to place in each of our 43 PetAid hospitals across the UK.
£20,000 will cover the cost to buy and install one machine and contribute to its on-going maintenance. We launched this Appeal in 2009 and plan to purchase eight digital x-ray processors every year over five years.

What are the benefits of a new system?
Digital x-ray processing is beneficial for our pet patients as it reduces the amount of time they need to be anaesthestised, allowing them to go home sooner.
It also saves us money by replacing costly film and chemicals with clean, digital technology. This alone could reduce running costs by up to £100,000 per year – meaning more funds available to treat sick and injured pets.
PDSA is constantly looking for ways to improve the service we offer to our pet patients. It is important that we keep up with the latest technology and cutting edge processes to ensure that we are providing a modern, first-class service.
Where the digital x-ray processors will be placed this year?
It is proposed that, if we can raise the funds needed to cover the cost of this project that the following hospitals would be in line for a new machine this year:
- Basildon (Fully funded)
- Brighton (Fully funded)
- Cardiff
- Newcastle (Fully funded)
- Manchester (Fully funded)
- Swansea

Case Study
Smudge
13-year-old Smudge needed emergency surgery at our Croydon PetAid hospital to remove an air gun pellet after a digital x-ray showed it stuck in her bladder.
Smudge must have been in considerable discomfort and she was operated on straight away to remove the pellet. The following day Smudge was able to go home and has fully recovered.
