Increase in demand for our services
PDSA operates in some of the most deprived parts of the UK. We look after the loved pets of those people who are eligible for our services. And we have seen time and time again, when times are tough, we get a significant increase in the demand on our services.
Everyday at our PetAid hospitals we treat, on average 5,500 sick and injured animals. With an anticipated increase of 15% in the numbers of sick and injured pets that will be brought to us over the next two years it means this figure could rise to 6,500.
Please help us save the lives of pets like Rella
Rella was rushed to her local PDSA PetAid hospital after her owner found her lying on the kitchen mat, barely able to move, and with her back legs limp and twisted.
As soon as Rella arrived at the PetAid hospital she was put on a drip and given immediate pain relief. Rella was x-rayed which showed her pelvis had been fractured and she had been hit with such force her diaphragm had ruptured and her stomach had been forced into her lungs.
Due to the extent of her injuries it was amazing she was still able to breathe. She was operated on for two hours and it was touch-and-go, but the operation proved a success.
Four days later she was allowed home and after six weeks’ strict cage rest, she’s thankfully now back on all four paws.
