Can a gift be left for use in a specific area?
Yes, please contact us for our recommended form of wording.
How much does a will cost?
Writing a simple will with a reputable will-writer is far less expensive than most people realise. The average cost of writing a single will is around £100, depending on where you live.
If you don’t have your own solicitor, you can use our simple Solicitor Finder to locate solicitors in your local area.
Can I write my own will?
Writing your own will, even with a will pack, can be risky because probate law, Inheritance Tax and the language used are not always straightforward. If all the required legal procedures aren’t followed, you could inadvertently make your will null and void.
We would always recommend that you seek the professional guidance of a solicitor before writing your will.
If you don’t have your own solicitor, you can use our simple Solicitor Finder to locate solicitors in your local area.
Can I talk privately to someone about my will?
We appreciate that for some supporters the opportunity to talk to someone either face to face or over the telephone is sometimes an easier way to have questions answered about making or amending their will.
PDSA’s Regional Legacy Team spend their time talking to supporters, answering questions and providing guidance where necessary to help them.
If you would prefer personal assistance from a member of the Regional Team, please do contact us and we shall get back in touch. Alternatively, please freephone 0800 591248.
In addition, when considering leaving a gift for PDSA, we appreciate that before you make such an important decision, you may like the opportunity to find out more about the work we do and potentially how such a gift might be spent in the future. With this in mind, each year we run a series of legacy events at some of our PetAid hospitals and other locations around the UK.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to speak to a member of the team in private at either one of our PetAid hospitals or within your home, please contact us.
What will happen to my pets when I die?
We appreciate that for many of our supporters, who will look after their pets after they have passed away, is a primary concern.
It is in the best interests of any pet to arrange this care with a trusted friend or relative, when the time comes. In this way pets suffer the least emotional and physical disturbance.
Who will tell PDSA when I’ve passed away?
When a supporter has been kind enough to include a gift in their will for our work, the executor of the estate contacts PDSA to inform us of the death and the administration of the estate will then begin.
If you would like to name PDSA as your executor, see our will information guide to find out if you will be able to do this. It is wise to provide family, friends or neighbours with PDSA’s contact details. Some supporters even provide this information to their doctor, so that we can be advised as soon as possible.
Can PDSA clear the contents of my house when the time comes?
We would recommend that you instruct your executor to arrange for the contents of your home to be sold and the proceeds then donated to PDSA if that is your wish. PDSA does not operate a house-clearance service, although our shops are grateful for donations of clothes, books and bric-à-brac items. PDSA does have contacts with auctioneers and jewellers who can deal with higher value items on our behalf.
