On 7 July 2005 London’s public transport system was subject to four horrific terrorist attacks, causing significant loss of life and mass devastation. Fourteen police explosives search dog teams were deployed to the four sites in order to locate possible secondary terrorist devices and thereby secure safe access for the emergency services to those trapped or injured.
On 3 July 2007, PDSA Patron, HRH Princess Alexandra, presented the PDSA Gold Medal, the Animals’ George Cross, to three Police explosives search dogs at a special ceremony held at St James's Palace in London.
The three recipients, Labradors, Vinnie and Billy, and Spaniel, Jake were chosen by their respective police forces – to represent the fourteen police explosives search dogs that worked in London on that fateful day.
Pictures from the ceremony can be viewed below and on the subsequent pages, for further information and pictures please contact the PDSA Media and PR team.
