Pet Health Video: Dog Diet

PDSA vet, Paul, speaks from his consulting room about the importance of feeding a dog correctly. He recommends feeding a complete commercial dog food, which contains the nutrients that a dog needs in the right amounts. Treats, he says, should only be fed in small amounts, and the amount of food given in the main meal should be reduced if treats are fed, to avoid dangerous weight gain. He has examples of foods in front of him and says that healthy treats include lean meat, certain vegetables and good quality, low calorie, dog treats. Foods like chocolate and grapes are poisonous to dogs, while crisps, sweets, biscuits and cheese are high in sugar and fat, so also shouldn’t be fed. He reminds us that your vet is a good person to advise on what to feed your dog.
