Pet Health Video: Cat Diet

PDSA vet, Paul, speaks from his consulting room about the importance of feeding a cat correctly. He recommends feeding a complete commercial cat food, which contains the nutrients that a cat needs in the right amounts. Treats, he says, should only be fed occasionally in small amounts. The amount of food given in the main meal should be reduced if treats are fed, to avoid dangerous weight gain. He has examples of foods in front of him and says that healthy treats include lean meat such as pieces of ham or chicken, or fish from a tin. Dairy products such as milk, cheese and cream shouldn’t be fed, and neither should biscuits intended for humans. He tells us that raisins are poisonous to cats and says that your vet is a good person to advise on what to feed your cat.
