Pet E.R - Chubb
Name: Chubb
Age: Six months
Breed: Collie
Owner: Yvonne Crawley
What happened: This naughty puppy helped himself to a plate of leftovers at a family barbecue and swallowed a corn on the cob core - including a sharp metal skewer pushed into the end.
Owner's comment: Chubb can be very greedy - he wolfs down his food and rarely even takes the time to chew. He was so fast I couldn't reach him in time to stop him swallowing the remains of the corn on the cob together with the skewer.
Action taken: Chubb was taken to PDSA straight away and an x-ray revealed the skewer lodged in Chubb's stomach. PDSA vets operated immediately to remove it.
Vet's comment: Thankfully the operation was a success. We often see cases where dogs have swallowed strange items, but something as sharp as this could have caused some serious internal damage.
