Goldfish
Goldfish are a popular choice of pet for many families, but do you know about their five welfare needs?
PDSA pet care tips for goldfish
Here’s a quick check list of things I need:
- A large, clean fish tank or pond. Goldfish bowls are too small and don’t allow enough oxygen into the water for me to breathe
- A small amount of fish food every day
- I like interesting objects in my tank to explore and swim around. Plants help keep the water clean too
- Company – I like to swim with other fish otherwise I get lonely
- Take me to the vet if I seem unwell
- Remember, to clean my tank and change some of the water each week. Tap water needs special drops to remove the chlorine
Watch a video of PDSA vets and nurses caring for pets
We have lots of really good video's showing our vets and nurses caring for pets, why don't you watch today.
Below is a video that shows PDSA vet, James, speaking about some of the things you should consider before getting a new pet. Having a pet is a big responsibility and he says that pets like dogs, cats and rabbits should all be vaccinated, neutered and insured. He says that pets need our time and love, with time spent playing and taking them for walks every day, and that anyone thinking about getting a pet also needs to fully consider all the costs that will be involved.
