Patsy was my first - and only dog. She was my special companion, my little shadow, my sous-chef, my garden assistant, the centre of my world for 12 fun-filled years. She was stunningly beautiful - and knew it! She could really strike a pose for the camera. She was clever, determined, independent and naughty; a huge character, a force of canine nature. Together we attended Puppy School and then Hunting Training in the Netherlands where we lived for the first 8 years of her life. Whilst my husband worked I looked after Patsy taking her on long walks (sometimes longer than planned when she went hunting!) and bicycle rides out to the beach where she, too, loved to sunbathe before trotting home again beside me. She loved her food - and everyone else's too! She was also very loving and cuddly at home. We often all snuggled together on the sofa and she loved sleeping with us too, stealing most of the bed, of course! Then in April 2021 she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We were absolutely blindsided. She had hidden any pain she was enduring. She recovered well after the operation to remove the tumour and her spleen and seemed to enjoy the 5 extra months we were able to have her with us. She was brave and strong to the end. Much braver and stronger than us and losing her has left such a crater in our lives; the grief is almost unbearable. I long to see her again and cuddle and play with her at the Rainbow Bridge. Until then I shall support my local PDSA in Inverness and hope that vets will soon be able to diagnose cancer in dogs before it takes hold and cuts their lives
