Pet Health Video: Worming Your Pet
PDSA vet, Elaine, is sitting in a consulting room talking about worms in pets. She says that two types of worms can infect our pets, roundworms and tapeworms. Roundworm eggs can be found in soil and can get on to a pet’s coat. When we stroke our pet the eggs can pass to our hands and can then infect us. So Elaine says it is important that we wash our hands after stroking our pet, but also that we prevent worm infections in our pets by using worming treatments. Elaine says that tapeworms are transmitted by fleas, so controlling fleas is also an important part of worm control. She says that when pets suffer from preventable conditions, this is upsetting for owners as well as the vets and vet nurses.
