Brandy continues to make good progress

I have to start by saying thank you, although a simple thanks doesn’t seem quite enough when I stop to think about what you’re doing for my family.

Without PDSA, we wouldn’t be able to afford Brandy’s ongoing treatment - and I just couldn’t bear to think what the alternative would be. Brandy is being treated at Gillingham Pet Hospital and is on four tablets a day – two in the morning, and two in the evening - to keep her condition under control. Her condition, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), means that Brandy cannot absorb the nutrients that she needs from her food, her medication helps with this but diet is still so important to her condition. We also have a cat called Jazz, and one thing we have to be really vigilant about is making sure Brandy isn’t tempted to get her head in the cat’s bowl. Cat food is particularly rich and if Brandy even eats a small amount it can really cause havoc with her condition. She’d never steal food from Jazz, but if he happened to leave some, and my back was turned, she’d be in there like a shot. So I have to keep a close eye on them at feeding time.

One of her favourite pastimes is to howl at the phone every time it rings. And it seems that other dogs that hear her thinks it’s a fun game and join in too! I have to run to answer the phone, if it rings for too long they don’t hear me pick it up, and she’ll carry on howling while I’m trying to speak. I’ve started to try distracting her with her favourite ball, but that doesn’t seem to work; the phone is so much more entertaining. Thanks to your support, Brandy’s EPI can be managed and she can continue to let the world know when the phone rings!

Until next time,

Rachel and Brandy
