Sugar continues to make good progress

After I lost my old Westie to stomach cancer aged 15, I left it a while before I found Sugar. I’m so glad I did as she’s a great character with such a loving personality.

My wife had a stroke 7 years ago and lost control of one side of her body, so I became her full-time carer. Sugar would jump on the bed to be with her.

She absolutely loves to play in the garden or go out to the local parks. Whenever you say ‘walk’ she gets so excited and wants to go straight away. It was when we were walking to my son’s house at the end of the road that she first collapsed and had to be carried. I knew something wasn’t right. She’d also started to go off her food, so my daughter rang PDSA for me.

Two days later, after spending time in the Pet Hospital having IV fluids and blood tests, we found out she was suffering with Addison’s disease. Not having her at home was tough, and my daughter was really upset because she wasn’t around.

Sadly, just over a year ago my wife passed away. Sugar is my furry baby (I certainly treat her like one!) and without PDSA I could have lost her as well. She’s a great companion that helps to keep me fit and is always happy and wagging her tail - even when she’s going to the vets.

It’s thanks to you that she can continue to get the support she needs to live a happy life.

Until next time,

Gary and Sugar
