Blindness in cats

Surprisingly, it’s not always easy to tell if your cat is going blind. There are many possible causes – some cause sudden blindness, some cause gradual blindness, some are treatable, some are not.

Sunburn in pets

Pets can get sunburnt just like people, especially if they are light coloured or have a thin/patchy coat. Sunburn is painful, causes skin damage, and can lead to certain types of skin cancer.

Dementia in Dogs: Cognitive Dysfunction

Cognitive dysfunction (‘doggy dementia’) is a condition that can develop in some dogs as their brain ages. The cause isn’t fully understood, but it’s known to be made worse by changes such as a build-up of a harmful protein (beta amyloid), and poor blood flow.

Diarrhoea after a change of food

Some pets will struggle to digest a new food unless it’s introduced slowly into their normal diet – so, if your pet eats something they aren’t used to it may give them diarrhoea.

Insect bites and stings in dogs

Dogs are most often stung around their face or on their paws. Most stings can be managed at home as long as the signs are mild.

Entropion in dogs

Entropion is when an eyelid rolls in towards the eyeball, causing fur and eyelashes to rub the surface of the eye. It is very painful and often leads to problems such as conjunctivitis, infections and ulcers.
