Lisa’s story

Hi! I’m Lisa and this year I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for PDSA. This will be the second time I’ve run the marathon for PDSA and I’m really excited to take on the challenge again!

I’m originally from Blackpool, where my mum still lives with her dog George, but emigrated to Australia a few years ago. I think one of the most challenging parts of my training will be running in this heat, but luckily I’ve got my running partner, Lolly, to keep me motivated.

I’ve done lots of running and challenge events in the past, including other marathons and an Iron Man challenge. This marathon will be challenging in new ways for me, though.

About 18 months ago, I got Bertie – my hip replacement. This year’s marathon will be my first major run since Bertie came into my life. I’m nervous but also so ready to get back out there and raise money for PDSA.

Why I’m running for PDSA

I’ve chosen to run for PDSA again this year not only because I think they do fantastic work, but also because of the amazing treatment they’ve given to my mum’s dogs.

When mum fell on hard times, after being made redundant, she found help from PDSA which meant she was able to keep her dogs. George and previously her border collie Ben both received treatment at PDSA’s Blackpool Pet Hospital. Both me and mum are very grateful for the treatment they received, which was a real lifeline for her.

The PDSA were there for my mum at her lowest point. Losing her dogs would’ve broken her heart so I’m really grateful that thanks to the PDSA she was able to keep him. PDSA have provided such amazing care to both my mum’s dogs, so running the marathon to raise funds for them is the least I could do to help continue changing the lives of people like my mum.
