Our team of Community Education Vet Nurses are busy giving regular talks on all aspects of pet care. The can give fun, educational talks on a whole range of subjects, including 'How to keep pets happy and healthy, 'Keeping safe around dogs', and 'Animal heroes in war and peace'.

Scotland and Northern Ireland

Hi, I’m Emma, Community Vet Nurse for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I’ve always loved animals. I grew up in a small farming village, where I was always keen to help muck out the horses or clean out the cows. Then, when I was a teenager, my family became involved with a charity training puppies and my love of dogs developed.

Over the years I’ve had a variety of pets, ranging from hamsters and gerbils to chinchillas. My passion though, still lies with dogs. At home, we have 2 pugs, Stewie and Nelly. Nelly keeps us on our toes as, although she’s small, she’s a bit of a handful.

My career as a vet nurse began when I worked at a local practice to gain some experience. Afterwards, I started working there as a weekend receptionist and then went onto veterinary nursing, starting out as a student and qualifying in 2009.

I joined PDSA’s Community Education Team in 2016 and my role involves teaching people of all ages about animal welfare, whether they’re a child in a school or a pet owner. I work closely within my community, delivering workshops and events spreading the word on the great work that we do at PDSA.

When I’m not talking about or looking after animals, I keep myself busy by being creative and making things. I love to add a little sparkle to something to make it look its best.

North East

Hi I’m Tina, Community Vet Nurse for the North East

I had always wanted to work with animals from being a little tot and gained my veterinary nursing qualification in 1991. I spent many years working in private vet practice and joined PDSA in my current role in 2015.

I’m passionate about animal welfare and love working with schools and local communities to educate the pet owners of today and tomorrow.

At home I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and my horse Caramel, who keep me busy.

I love walking on my local beaches with the dogs and spend hours at the stables, riding and keeping my horse healthy and happy.

I deliver interactive and engaging workshops on a range of subjects, including ‘Keeping safe around dogs’, ‘How to keep pets healthy and happy’ and ‘Hero animals in war and peace’. I can also offer Curriculum linked sessions.

North West

Hi I’m Kylie, Community Education Vet Nurse for the North West

I’ve been fascinated by all animals for as long as I can remember, so it seemed natural for me to go on to work with them.

At home, I have a huge dog called Max, who’s very excitable and boisterous, two cats and a pony called Sally, to keep me on my toes.

I’ve worked in Pet Health for some time, initially setting up my own dog grooming salon…I loved pampering the pooches and making them look their best.

I went on to work in a private vet practice, proudly qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2010. I joined PDSA’s Education Team in 2015, as I’m passionate about promoting animal welfare and dog safety both in schools and with youth groups and the wider community.

I run a range of exciting workshops, covering topics from ‘Hero animals in war and peace’, to ‘How to keep all pets healthy and happy’

Midlands

Hi, I’m Kaya, Community Vet Nurse for the Midlands

I’ve worked for PDSA both as a nurse in our Pet Hospitals and as a Community Vet Nurse and have loved every minute. I initially joined our Derby Hospital as a student in 2011 and went on to qualify, gaining a degree in Vet Nursing from Nottingham Trent University.

At home, I have a German Shepherd called Rex who I rescued in 2013. He’s my WORLD. He came to me as a rogue without manners, but with patient and persistent training, he’s now a well behaved dog and much loved companion. There’s nothing I love more than walking in the country with my family and Rex.

My latest role has given me the opportunity to work with children and in the community, as well as in animal welfare, which is great. Working with schools, youth groups and the general public is really rewarding, as I know the work I do makes a real positive difference to the lives of people and their pets.

I think there’s nothing worse than listening to a robotic speaker, so I always make sure that my sessions are fun, engaging and interactive. Whatever the topic, from careers with animals or staying safe around dogs, all age groups thoroughly enjoy themselves and learn a lot in my workshops.

I look forward to meeting you all and sharing some stories of the pets I’ve helped and their journey to recovery.

London and the South East

Hi I’m Melissa, Community and Education Nurse for London and the South East.

I became interested in animal welfare when I got my first dog while living abroad. I realised how lucky we are in the UK to have some fantastic charities dedicated to animal welfare and it became my mission to get involved. I returned to the UK and retrained as a Veterinary Nurse at an orthopaedic referral hospital, qualifying in 2012. As a Registered Vet Nurse, I’ve worked both in private practice and in one of our busy PDSA Pet Hospitals, which I loved! I joined the Community and Education team in 2016.

I’m really enjoying being part of such a great team who are dedicated to improving the health and happiness of the UK’s pets. I love working with pet owners and in schools and communities, teaching them about the great work that PDSA does and how to look after their own pets. I deliver a wide range of fun and interactive workshops including ‘The Welfare Needs of Pets’, ‘Animal Heroes in War and Peace’ and ‘Canine Communication’.

I have two extremely gorgeous (of course I think so!) and SUPER friendly dogs at home. Stanley, a Lurcher and an old Bulldog, called Winston. When I’m not working I like to relax with my dogs, walking on the beach and watching them play together. I also enjoy the odd challenging holiday and spent my last one climbing 7 volcanoes in Guatemala!

Merseyside

Hi I’m Becca, the Community and Education Nurse for Merseyside

I first became interested in animal welfare after a trip to an animal charity in India in 2012. Since graduating as a vet nurse, I’ve worked in two PDSA Pet Hospitals; Wolverhampton and Liverpool. Also, in 2016, I was also lucky enough to work on projects with international animal welfare organisations in Thailand, Cambodia, Greece and Romania.

At home, I have two rescue cats called Cleo and Biscuit. I’m also a trustee for the Animal Welfare Foundation.

I believe every animal should have good health and welfare and am passionate about offering advice to the owners of today and tomorrow.

I’m really excited to be taking on the role of Community and Education Veterinary Nurse in Merseyside from September 2017.

I look forward to meeting the people and pets of Merseyside.
