Willow’s emergency surgery
PDSA vets come to the rescue after 10-week-old puppy, Willow, has a nasty fall.
What started as a playful session with her dog best friend, Dolly, turned into a nightmare, when adorable puppy, Willow, needed urgent help after slipping off a garden bench.
Willow’s owner, Lauren, was distressed and worried about her precious furry friend after seeing her crying out in pain and unable to move. Lauren contacted PDSA immediately and rushed Willow to her nearest Pet Hospital.
Upon examination, the PDSA vets noticed that Willow couldn’t put any weight on her right hind leg. They gave her pain relief to ease her suffering and sedated her for x-rays to assess the seriousness of her injuries.
The x-rays revealed that Willow had fractured her right femur (thigh bone) and needed emergency surgery to pin the fracture together. As she was only a small puppy that was still growing, it was crucial that the injury was tended to by our skilled vets quickly.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success. Once Willow had recovered, she was discharged with pain relief and strict instructions for rest. By the time of her check-up, Willow was able to walk on her leg and was almost back to her playful self.
Willow’s owner, Lauren, said, “I can’t thank PDSA enough. The team were amazing and so quick to treat Willow. I don’t know what I would have done without PDSA’s help - I would have struggled to afford private veterinary care. I’ll be forever grateful that they were there for Willow and I when we needed them.”
