PDSA statement on microchipping

23 December 2020

We understand that an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning about cat microchipping wrongly stated that PDSA provides free microchipping to eligible pet owners. This is incorrect and we wanted to clarify the services we currently provide.

Due to Covid-19 safety measures like social distancing, PDSA can’t operate our Pet Hospitals at full capacity. So, we only have a limited number of appointments available for people to visit our Pet Hospitals each day.

This means that the charity has had to make the difficult decision to reduce the range of services we offer. As a result, we’ve had to stop some preventive treatments such as neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and routine clinics. We've done this so that we can keep our vets available to treat life-threatening emergencies.
