Pet owner, Lucy, is going the extra mile for PDSA
17 June 2026
25-year-old Lucy from Hull is running the Beverley Half Marathon on Sunday 23 August 2026 to raise money for PDSA.
Lucy has always enjoyed running but decided to challenge herself by doing a half marathon. She wanted to give back to the charity that helped her dog, Lola, when she needed it most, so she’s running to raise funds for PDSA.
“Lola has been such an important part of my life and seeing the support she received from PDSA really highlighted how valuable the charity is for people,” Lucy explains. “Pets bring so much comfort to us, and I don’t know where I’d be without Lola. My mum bought her for me when she was a puppy, shortly after my dad died from cancer.”
Lola and Lucy share a special bond: “Lola has never judged me for being myself and helped me grow in confidence as an autistic person. What I love most about her is that she has loved me unconditionally from the moment we met. She gives both me and my mum a reason to get out of the house, go for walks and speak to more people.”
Lucy is stepping out of her comfort zone to run the Beverley Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for PDSA.
“Knowing that every mile I run will help support a charity that has helped my own dog so much gives me extra motivation to keep going,” says Lucy. “I’m proud to be fundraising for PDSA and grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way. Hopefully, the money raised will help other pets and families receive the same care and support that meant so much to us.”
“PDSA makes a real difference to the lives of pets and their owners every day. You never know when you or someone you know might need their help, and every contribution helps ensure that vital veterinary care remains available for those who need it most. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help PDSA continue its amazing work caring for pets and supporting families.”
PDSA Vet Nurse, Shauna Walsh, said: “Lucy and Lola’s story has completely captured our hearts! We’re so incredibly grateful to Lucy for choosing to raise money to help other poorly pets get the care they need. We wish her the absolute best of luck in her upcoming marathon.”
