New charity shop for pets opens its doors in Ashton.

Coronation Street actress Lisa George opened a brand new charity shop in Ashton, which will raise vital funds for sick and injured pets.

Located at 45 Warrington Street, the shop will sell pre-loved and new items, plus pet products, all at bargain prices, with profits helping to fund vet charity PDSA’s nationwide service.

Lisa George, who is best known for playing Beth Sutherland in the long-running soap, cut the ribbon to officially open the shop in front of staff, volunteers and customers.

She said: “I’m delighted to open Ashton’s PDSA Shop and would like to congratulate everyone on their hard work in making this a reality.

“I love finding quirky pieces of vintage clothing and homeware, so I’m really in my element here! I’d encourage locals to check out the brilliant new shop too and find some bargains and help poorly pets at the same time.”

Shop Manager Elaine Gillespie, said: “It’s been full steam ahead and we’re very excited to be opening a new shop in Ashton. We’ve been very busy behind the scenes to get the shop ready and I want to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers who’ve gone the extra mile to help make this happen.

“If you’re having a Spring clean or de-cluttering your home why not donate your unwanted items to us? We’re appealing for all types of donations, clothing, homeware, DVDs and books. And every penny we raise will help local sick and injured pets.”

The new Ashton-Under-Lyne PDSA shop will raise funds to provide veterinary care to the pets of people in need in Manchester. PDSA is currently building a brand new, state-of-the-art facility to care for pets in need in Manchester. The £2.4 million Manchester PDSA Pet Wellbeing Centre, The Montague-Panton Hospital, will open to pet patients later this year.
