Celeb urges pet owners to take advantages of charity's free dog health checks

Actress and model Jorgie Porter gave a boost to our PetCheck tour after taking her pooch along for a pet 'MOT'.

The former Hollyoaks star paid a visit yesterday with her rescue dog, Lady, as we visited her home town of Manchester.

Jorgie, who is also well known from her appearances on I'm A Celebrity... and Dancing On Ice, said the tour was a fantastic way to help pets and owners across the UK.

Speaking after her four-year-old Bichon Frise Jack Russell cross was seen on board the PetCheck vehicle and given a clean bill of health, Jorgie urged fellow owners to take advantage of the free service.

She said: "PDSA's PetCheck tour is a brilliant concept. It is completely free for owners to take their dogs along and get a health check.

“Not only can you get great tips and advice on how to keep them healthy, but it can also help spot potential problems before they become too serious.

“My dog Lady means the world to me and her health is very important. I’d urge any dog owners to pay a visit to PetCheck if the tour is coming to a town near them.”

This year’s PetCheck tour has received funding support from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and will travel across the UK providing free health checks and offering expert pet care advice.

In addition to the free health ‘MOT’s’, there is also free nail clipping, ear cleaning and microchipping (which is now a legal requirement for all dogs), although donations are welcome. Cats Protection neutering vouchers are also available.

PDSA Vet Nurse Kylie Jones said: “We’re really grateful to Jorgie for giving our PetCheck tour a boost and it was lovely to meet Lady too.

“We know people love their pets and want the best for them, which is why PDSA is here to help. We can offer free, friendly advice and support, helping owners to make small changes that often make big differences to the wellbeing of pets.”
