New PDSA service for North London

Edmonton Green Clinic to provide charitable vet care for more local pets

PDSA, the vet charity for pets in need, has opened a new service in North London – the Edmonton Green PDSA Pet Clinic. The facility, a refurbished former RSPCA clinic, has now opened to the public as the latest step in the partnership between the two major animal charities.

The new PDSA Pet Clinic, which first opened to pet patients on 4 March 2024, was officially opened yesterday (21 March) by PDSA Director General, Jan McLoughlin. The additional site, which brings the total of PDSA’s Pet Hospitals and Clinics to 49, enables the charity to open their vital vet services to 11 new postcodes in the area.

The additional postcode catchments will be open to new PDSA registrations for eligible owners, ensuring more people and their pets can access free and low-cost vet care at a time when many families are struggling with basic costs of living.

Jan McLoughlin said: “I was delighted to open our new Edmonton Green Clinic yesterday, and to meet some of the local owners and pets who will be able to benefit from this. Our collaboration with RSPCA has given PDSA the opportunity to improve our services in this much-needed area and to be there for more people, enabling us to keep more pets together with their loving families.”

Edmonton Green PDSA will ensure that charitable vet care remains available to all current clients of RSPCA Finsbury Park Animal Hospital, following the animal welfare charity’s decision to phase out their public-facing services. This has allowed RSPCA to focus their expertise on rescuing and treating more animals suffering from from cruelty and neglect, whilst PDSA’s priority is providing affordable vet care to hundreds of thousands of owners who are struggling to afford the vital treatment their pets need.

Caroline Allen, RSPCA’s Chief Veterinary Officer, said: “Our partnership with PDSA comes at a time when we are sadly seeing rising reports of cruelty and neglect. This collaboration means our expert vet teams can focus their specialist skills on supporting our frontline officers and the animals they rescue, who often need specialist care. We are pleased this partnership means our two charities are able to help more pet owners and animals most in need.”

Richard Hooker, PDSA’s Director of Veterinary Services said: “We know what a difference our vital services make to pet owners who are struggling financially – helping to alleviate poverty and prevent unnecessary suffering. We’ve seen hundreds of PDSA applications from these new catchments in just the three weeks since our new Edmonton Green Clinic opened, clearly showing a significant demand for our help.

“Across the UK, PDSA sees ten pets every single minute, that’s one pet every six seconds. PDSA is on the frontline of the current cost of living crisis, with our incredible veterinary teams helping pet owners and saving lives every day. The fact that we do this with no Government funding, relying solely on generous public support and donations, is testament to the strong bond our nation has with our pets, and the value they place in PDSA.”

Edmonton Green PDSA Pet Clinic will operate as a ‘branch’ to Hendon PDSA Pet Hospital, with routine services provided by the Clinic while more complex treatment and operations are seen by the larger site in Hendon. The same veterinary team will run both sites and the Clinic will initially be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm, but PDSA expects to open on additional days as demand increases.

The 11 new postcodes being added to PDSA’s North London catchments are: EN3, N4, N5, N7, N9, N15, N16, N17, N18, W9 and W10. While the majority of the new postcodes will go to the Edmonton Green Pet Clinic, some will go to other PDSA Pet Hospitals in Hendon, Ilford or Bow, depending on which is closest.
