Plymouth PDSA colleagues go the extra mile to raise £552 for pets in need

Three colleagues from Plymouth PDSA Pet Hospital, The Gwen Rees Centre, have gone above and beyond for people and pets in need, raising £552 for PDSA by taking on the Weymouth Half Marathon.
Apprentice Veterinary Nurse, Victoria Lane, and colleague Linda Ge were among the three Plymouth PDSA colleagues who took on the challenge, which took place in Victoria’s hometown of Weymouth. Together, the trio completed the 13.1-mile course and raised vital funds to help support PDSA’s work caring for vulnerable pets and supporting their owners.
Victoria, who has worked for PDSA for more than five years, was inspired to start running after losing her dad and wanting to raise money for the hospice that cared for him.
She said, “I first got into running when my dad passed away, as I wanted to raise some money for the hospice he was in. Last year, I ran the London Marathon and managed to raise quite a bit for the hospice.”
“I’ve worked for PDSA for over five years now and love working for the charity, so I've always seen it as another worthwhile cause to support. I was talking at work about running a half marathon in my hometown of Weymouth and a couple of colleagues said they would be up for the challenge too. That’s when I thought we could turn it into a fundraiser and raise some money for PDSA.”
Despite taking part in several running events, Victoria admits race days still bring plenty of nerves.
She added, “I always get nervous on race day, especially when there’s a bit of added pressure because you’re doing it for charity and you want to do your best.”
The team’s efforts were supported by family, friends and colleagues, who cheered them on throughout their training and on the day itself.
The £552 raised by Victoria and her colleagues will help PDSA continue to provide vital veterinary care to pets in need.
The total could fund more than 27 vet nurse consultations, helping owners access professional advice and support for their beloved pets, or contribute towards essential treatments, equipment and emergency care for vulnerable pets across the UK.
