Retail announcement

20 March 2020

PDSA Director General, Jan McLoughlin, said: "After much deliberation during this unprecedented time, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the very difficult decision to temporarily shut our nationwide network of charity shops from close of trading (4pm) on Saturday 21 March.

"Following Government advice we feel this is the right thing to do as the country attempts to minimise the spread of the virus. As we have a responsibility for our volunteers it’s really important that we play our part to support the national interest and the Government’s social-distancing measures – particularly as we expect more and more retailers to close over the coming days.

"We would kindly ask supporters not to bring donations to our shops for the time being, but we know the great UK public will still be keen to help, so we will be looking into other ways of accepting donated goods in due course. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will announce plans to re-open shops when it is safe to do so.

"In the meantime, our online trading is very much open for business, so people can help by shopping with us or can make a donation online – all of which will go towards treating the thousands of sick and injured pets that desperately need our help.

"I am so proud of our Retail and Volunteer teams in how they’ve coped over the past few weeks. I’ve spoken to a number of shop managers personally and have been overwhelmed by the commitment and dedication our teams have shown to keep our shops running.

"We need the public’s help and support now more than ever and if anyone can support us, no matter how big or small that contribution might be, you can donate online here"
