Targeted Advertising & Social Media Marketing
Collection of Data through ‘Cookies’
PDSA uses resident cookies to store data on the hard disk of your computer for the purpose of identifying you when you return to the PDSA website. If you have resident cookies disabled in your browser, you are still able to use the PDSA website. PDSA uses sessions to store data on our server, which are individually identifiable. This means that a session cookie will be stored on your machine, and will expire once your visit to the PDSA website has ended. Functionality of the PDSA website depends upon your browser accepting session cookies. PDSA tracks visitors to and on the PDSA website by using referrer tracking. PDSA uses click through and open mail tracking when sending emails. This process gives PDSA the ability to tailor future email communications.
By using our website, our social media pages (such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Instagram), subscribing to our services, donating to us and/or shopping online, you agree that, unless you have set your computer's browser to reject them, we can place cookies on your device and use that data in accordance with this policy.
In addition to our own cookies, we also use third party cookies (and similar technologies) for the purposes of advertising and re-marketing activities, which may involve these third parties building a profile of our website visitors. Digital Re-Marketing is a feature of Google services that lets PDSA reach people who have previously visited our website. PDSA digital adverts may be shown to people when they visit other websites in the Google Display Network or when they search on Google using PDSA or pet-related keywords.
Re-marketing is a feature that helps match interested people with the right message. Even if people leave our site without making a purchase, re-marketing lets us reach out to these potential supporters when they search on Google using pet-related keywords or visit similar websites. We can show an advert that encourages them to return to our website.
For more details on our use of cookies, a description of cookies we use, and how to manage their use please see our Cookie Policy.
PDSA Marketing Automation
PDSA use the Dotdigital marketing automation platform to give us the ability to tailor future communications based on your interaction with our website, email, and SMS communications.
The information stored by Dotdigital cookies remains anonymous until:
- Our website is visited via clicking from an email or SMS message, sent via the Dotdigital platform and cookies are accepted on the website
- A user of the website completes a form containing email address from either our website or our Dotdigital landing pages.
The Dotdigital marketing automation platform uses technologies such as tracking pixels (a tiny invisible image) and link tracking to monitor email and SMS click through and open activity. All links within emails and SMS messages sent from the Dotdigital platform contain a unique tracking reference, this reference help us identify who clicked an email for statistical purposes. This technology also helps PDSA to monitoring your page viewing activities on our websites.
Social Media Marketing
We may participate in Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp) ‘Custom Audience’ program, in addition to similar programs operated by Google and other social media and advertising platforms. These technologies enables us to display adverts to our existing supporters when they visit many of the popular social media platforms. We may share your email address, mobile number and address to Meta, Google, or other Social Media platforms so they can determine whether you are a registered account holder with them. Our adverts may then appear when you access your social media account. Your data is sent in an encrypted format that is deleted by the social media platform if it does not match with an account on their system.
For more information please see Meta Custom Audiences and Facebook’s Data Policy at Facebook.com/policy
