Insuring your senior pet

As pets get older, they’re more likely to get unwell and often need more care to keep them comfortable during their senior years. The reality is that accidents and illnesses can happen at any time and vet bills can add up fast. That’s why many people choose to insure their pets as soon as they get them, so they are covered financially should the worst happen.

Insuring your senior pet with PDSA Pet Insurance not only protects their health, but also protects you from having to pay costly, unexpected vet fees. Get a quote for your senior pet in under three minutes.

Our senior pet insurance policies

Senior pet insurance is covered under a PDSA Pet Insurance policy. There are two pet insurance policies for older dogs and cats with PDSA: Lifetime and Time-limited (12-month).

Lifetime policies

  • A Lifetime pet insurance with PDSA Pet Insurance covers your senior pet for any lifelong conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy. If you renew your policy every 12 months, then you can cover new illnesses and accidents as well. A Lifetime pet insurance policy tends to be more expensive than Time-Limited cover, but it can help to prevent high treatment costs for long term illnesses that your pet may develop as they get older.

Time-limited (12-month) policies

  • A Time-limited policy with PDSA Pet Insurance covers your vet fees for accidents and illnesses up to the financial amount you selected or up to a maximum of 12 months from the first symptoms shown. When either limit it reached, the specific condition will no longer be covered and excluded from your policy. This policy will be more affordable and best suited for those looking for short-term cover.

By taking out a PDSA Pet Insurance policy for your senior pet, you’ll also be supporting our life-saving charity work to keep people and pets together. Every PDSA Pet Insurance policy sold helps us provide essential treatment for sick and injured pets across our Pet Hospitals.

Meet Gus

Eight-year-old Miniature Dachshund, Gus, was saved by PDSA vets after he collapsed from bladder stones. Older pets are more prone to illnesses like bladder stones, so Gus’ owner, Julie, is working closely with the vet team to ensure Gus’ condition is monitored closely and he receives the treatment he deserves.
