How OSO Scents gives back to people and pets in need
11 August 2025
After seeing how PDSA helped her sister’s pet, Cleo, Sarah donated profits from her business to PDSA.
OSO Scents, a home fragrance business, was set up by Sarah (a 30-year-old mum from Sheffield) and her friend as a “side hustle” to make extra income and support charities. Every month, OSO Scents donates a portion of its profits to a different charity.
Sarah said: “Before OSO Scents, I commissioned paintings for people who, like me, have lost a baby. I would donate the money to baby-loss charities and realised I wanted to do the same with OSO Scents. The market is a pretty saturated one, but I love making them and thought it’d be nice to give something to the amazing charities out there.”
In July 2025, Sarah chose to donate to PDSA after the Sheffield Pet Hospital helped her sister’s cat, Cleo. Sarah explained: “My sister’s cat became unwell all of a sudden and needed vet care immediately. The vet practice where she is registered was closed, so we contacted PDSA for help. Thankfully, they booked us in for an emergency appointment.
“Unfortunately, Cleo was in a lot of pain. After examinations and tests, vets advised putting her to sleep would be the kindest option. Cleo was in a lot of pain and had to be put to sleep. If it wasn’t for PDSA, Cleo would have suffered so much. Everyone at the Pet Hospital was so helpful and understanding at such an upsetting time for my sister.
“The staff at PDSA were so caring; they gave my sister time with Cleo to say goodbye. They even sorted everything out with Cleo’s registered vets afterwards, such as notifying them so they would no longer prescribe her regular medication. It was really thoughtful and made the whole process a lot easier. Everything the staff do there is amazing, they have a genuine love and understanding of what pets mean to their owners.
Sarah, a pet owner herself to her cat Pepper, knows how special the bond between people and pets is. She explained: “I have a black cat called Pepper. At first, I didn't really see her as my cat as I’m slightly allergic; it was my husband who wanted a cat. Pepper is friendly and snuggly, so it wasn’t hard to let her into my heart. Pets become an important part of the family, and no one should be denied that special bond because they’ve fallen on hard times.
“PDSA is an incredibly important charity because it ensures that pets receive the vet care they need, regardless of their owners’ financial situations. It’s amazing that PDSA can provide free or low-cost veterinary care to those who might otherwise not be able to afford it. It’s definitely a charity that deserves so much support. PDSA will be a recurring charity partner for me.”
PDSA Vet, Emma Fisher, added: “We’re grateful to people like Sarah for choosing to support PDSA. It’s thanks to kind-hearted people that we can provide treatment for pets in need to keep people and pets together.”
