Why Trishaa became a PDSA volunteer

by PDSA | 2 September

Trishaa’s decision to volunteer at PDSA came from her passion for both community service and animal welfare.

Inspired by our mission to provide free and low-cost veterinary care to pets whose owners might otherwise struggle to afford it, Trishaa saw an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. Over five months, while completing her master’s degree, Trishaa dedicated 75 hours to volunteering at PDSA.

Read on as she shares more about her experience in her own words.

Why I became a PDSA volunteer

From the moment I learned about PDSA, I knew it was a charity that aligned with my values.

As someone who cares deeply about both community wellbeing and animal welfare, I was inspired by PDSA’s mission to provide veterinary care for pets in need, especially for families who might not otherwise be able to afford it. The role also supported my interest in sustainability through giving donated items a second life.

I wanted to be part of something that uplifts people and protects the pets they love, and PDSA embodied that perfectly!

A memory that has stuck with me

Whether I was reorganising the stockrooms or chatting with customers, I saw how consistent, thoughtful effort in the shop can make a genuine difference. But there was one particular rewarding moment that has stayed with me.

One day, we unpacked a donation filled with beautiful, brand-new crockery. Not long after, a woman came into the shop. She had just moved into a small flat and was looking for something that could help make it feel like home. When she spotted the crockery set, her whole face lit up.

That small moment reminded me that the shop isn’t just a place to buy things – it’s a place where generosity meets real human need, and where acts of kindness can often happen in the smallest, everyday ways.

Why you should volunteer at a PDSA charity shop

If you’re thinking about volunteering with PDSA, my advice is simple: do it! You’ll gain far more than you give.

It’s not just about sorting donations or working the till. It’s about being part of a team that genuinely cares – about people, about pets, and about making a difference. You’ll meet kind, inspiring individuals, learn useful skills, and become part of a purpose-driven environment where every hour you give matters.

Volunteering has been a deeply rewarding experience, one I’d recommend to anyone. Whether you’re looking to grow personally or professionally, or want to support a meaningful cause, volunteering will leave you with lasting lessons and maybe a few beautiful stories to carry with you.
